The Case of the Lonely Chair

By Paul L. Miller

There is a chair sitting there, reserved especially for you.

It sits there quietly awaiting, with nothing else to do.

The chair never knelt and took an oath nor paid its yearly dues,

but the chair is present at every meeting awaiting the very few.

As Masons we need to learn the lesson of the chair,

Masonic lodges were built by men who really care.

Dedicated men who never considered it fair,

to allow the dust to build upon that chair.

No man can force another man to attend our meetings,

nor consider a member lesser for seldom attending.

But Masonry suffers from excessive dusting,

of the chair reserved from a Mason’s ending.

There is a chair sitting there, reserved especially f you.

I’d rather have you sitting there, than receiving just your dues.

Your attendance is needed to change my view,

And bring this lodge back to the great Masonic Blue.

Won’t you attend the next meeting, and save the chair

from gathering up the layers of dust from those that do not care.

Come and be a part of the Lodge you vowed to share,

your attendance is always better than staring at that chair.
